When planting along bulkheads or sea walls, it is necessary to set the encasements below the elevation appropriate for long-term mangrove survival. An artificial bottom can be established inside the encasement in order to raise the seedling to an elevation suitable for normal mangrove development.

The confined volume of the encasement enables the establishment of the proper elevation for successful mangrove planting in most residential canals.
